How to use it
- Set the screen size with a card, so the letters are drawn at the true size.
- Stand at the distance you chose. Measure it if you can: one large step is roughly 75 cm.
- Test one eye at a time with the other covered, without pressing on it.
- Read your result for each eye, shown as 6/6 style and 20/20 style.

How this online eye test works
The test uses a tumbling E, the same letter used on eye charts for people who cannot read English or Urdu letters. Each letter is drawn so that it covers 5 minutes of arc at your eye for a given line of the chart. To read the 6/6 line at 2 metres, the E is about 2.9 mm tall. You must get at least four of five letters right to pass a line, which makes lucky guesses unlikely.

What it cannot do
This is a screening. It cannot measure your number, find a cylindrical number precisely, or detect eye disease such as glaucoma, cataract or diabetic eye damage. Room light, screen brightness and distance errors all change the result.
