In detail
Gurde ki pathri ki alamat (symptoms of kidney stones)
A stone moving down from the kidney causes severe pain that starts in the back or side and travels to the groin, in waves, with nausea, burning and sometimes blood in the urine. Small stones in the kidney may cause no symptoms at all and are found by chance on ultrasound.
Pathri ka size aur ilaj (stone size and what is possible)
Stones under about 5 mm usually pass on their own with plenty of water within a few weeks. Stones between 5 and 10 mm pass less often and need monitoring. Stones over 10 mm, stones blocking the kidney, and stones with infection usually need a urologist for laser or shock-wave treatment. Bring your latest ultrasound so the doctor can advise honestly.
Peshab ki jalan aur infection (UTI)
Burning, passing urine often, lower belly pain and cloudy or smelly urine suggest a urinary infection. It is confirmed by a urine test and treated with antibiotics from a medical doctor. Fever, shivering or back pain with these symptoms means the infection has reached the kidney and is urgent.
Kidney infection ki alamat
High fever with shivering, pain in the side or back, vomiting and burning urine are signs of kidney infection. Go to a hospital the same day.
Pathri se bachao (preventing stones)
Half of people who have one stone get another within a few years. Drink enough to pass pale urine, cut salt, limit red meat, and do not cut out dairy, because normal calcium in food lowers stone risk.
General advice in line with NHS: kidney stones.

- Kidney pain with fever or shivering
- No urine, or very little urine
