- Walk briskly for 30 minutes most days.
- Lose extra weight and stop smoking.
- Take prescribed medicine every day, even when you feel well.
High blood pressure also damages the retina and is linked to erectile problems. Do not stop blood pressure medicine when starting any other treatment.

What is normal blood pressure?
Below 130/85 mmHg. Around 120/80 is ideal.
When is blood pressure an emergency?
A reading of 180/120 or more with chest pain, breathlessness, severe headache, weakness or blurred vision needs a hospital immediately.
Why does my reading change?
Blood pressure rises with stress, pain, tea, smoking and a full bladder. Measure at the same time each day.
