The formula
The Mifflin-St Jeor equation: BMR = 10 × weight (kg) + 6.25 × height (cm) − 5 × age + 5 for men, and the same with − 161 in place of + 5 for women. BMR is multiplied by an activity factor from 1.2 to 1.725 to give daily calories.
Using the result
Eating about 500 kcal less than your maintenance figure each day loses roughly half a kilo a week. One roti is about 100 to 120 kcal, a cup of cooked rice about 200, and a tablespoon of oil or ghee about 120.
