Most damage to glasses happens during cleaning. A few habits will keep your lenses clear for years.
How to clean glasses
- Rinse the lenses under clean, lukewarm water to wash off dust.
- Put one drop of plain dish soap on your fingertips and rub both sides of each lens and the nose pads.
- Rinse again and shake off the water.
- Dry with a clean microfibre cloth.
Do not wipe dry lenses with a shirt, dupatta or tissue. Dust on the lens acts like sandpaper and causes the fine scratches that make lenses look cloudy.
How to remove scratches from glasses
A scratch is a groove in the lens or its coating. Toothpaste, baking soda and car polish do not fill it. They rub away more of the coating and make an anti-glare lens worse. Light scratches can be lived with. If scratches sit in front of your pupil and disturb your sight, the lens needs replacing. We can fit new lenses into your existing frame in most cases.
How to fix loose glasses
- Loose screw. Tighten it gently with a small screwdriver. If it keeps opening, the screw needs replacing.
- Slipping down the nose. The nose pads or arms need adjusting. Do not bend metal arms yourself. They snap at the hinge.
- Crooked frame. Bring it to the shop. Adjustment takes a few minutes.
How to remove glue (Elfy) from glasses
Do not scrape it and do not use nail polish remover on plastic lenses. Acetone melts the lens and its coating. Soak the spot in warm soapy water and lift the glue gently with a fingernail. If it does not come off, bring the glasses to EyeBar Optical.

- Use both hands to take glasses off.
- Never put them lens-down on a table.
- Keep them in a hard case, not a pocket.
- Do not leave them on a motorbike seat or car dashboard in the sun.
